Comillas has a long seafaring and water sports tradition, surfing is one of them, hence its wide range of schools and adventure activities. Here I was speaking about another activity in the village, in fact, Comillas offers us a lot of experiences like the rest of Cantabria.
There are two beaches where you can practice this sport: Comillas beach and Oyambre beach.
Comillas beach is an urban beach, inside the town. It has a promenade, parking various entry points and places where you can recharge your battteries after surfing.
Its bottom is sandy, with variable waves that requires a medium/low level of knowledge.
Oyambre beach is ideal for surfing in the middle of a semi-virgin natural area, with dunes, marshes and cliffs. It consists of 1800 meters of golden sand and transparent waters. The quality of surfing at this beach is good as there is a good chance that the wind will break the waves.
In its 2-kilometre extension you will find several peaks such as "The Yellow Bird" or "El Golf". It can be considered a good place to learn to surf since the waves here are not too big but, since it is a warrior sea, it takes a bit to reach the peak, so it is recommended to surf this beach if you already have some level.
It is accessible by car, the car park is well signposted. To do this you must take the A-8 motorway and turn off at the San Vicente de la Barquera/La Acebosa exit. Then you must pay attention to the indications, because you can get there both by the CA-131 highway and by the CA-236.
I leave you the link of two surf schools, in case you dare to practice this sport in Comillas, but there are many more.
